trojan?

My wife opened an email last night and all the pop ups warning of a Trojan came on the screen, she didn't actually download the attachment.
I've ran both malwarebytes and virgin security and found nothing. Do we think my pc is safe or is there a better program to use to check?
Thanks for any help
Andy

Re: trojan?

Sounds like you had a narrow escape but to be sure you could run an on-line scan such as the Trend Housecall. That should have all the very latest virus definitions.

Re: trojan?

If you had warnings then your AV/malware scanners found it and you don;t need an online version to tell you any differently.. Just keep what you have updated and avoid sites like that in the future

Agreed, but I'm a 'belt and braces' type of guy.

I'm only using vigins own security and malwarebytes, I'm not that computer savvy so not sure if I'm doing right or not?

Re: trojan?

If it gave you a warning then it's working correctly.. Just make sure that you have it updated

Re: trojan?

Doesn't the Virgin security package use the Trend AV?

Doesn't mean to say it uses the same engine.. I did say that housecall is crap and not other trend products

Re: trojan?

From the description the OP has given, that behaviour sounds closer to a fake AV than anything else. Hard to tell though.

Re: trojan?

It could have been a fake alert. Often sites will show you popups that look like they are an application alerting you of thousand of viruses or problems and asking you to download an application or press a clean button.
This then installs malware on to your machine instead of cleaning it.

Sounds like you got out in time.
Get a reliable antivirus and do a full scan just to be on the safe side. Trend's free Housecall scan is good.
