A guy who said his name was 'Mark Smith from the computer maintenance department' phoned yesterday. I asked him where he was calling from and he said 'Rochester Kent. Some malicious files have been downloaded to your computer. I can show you them'.
'How will you do that?'
'I will give you some commands to type in'
'How do you know that this has happened to my computer?'
'Every computer has an I.P. address. Your I.P. appeared on our report'
'When did this happen?'
'A few weeks ago.'
'Where in Rochester are you calling from?'
'Omega Systems. You can phone 0141 0162694 to check this' (I checked the dialling code a moment ago and it's Glasgow)
'Do you have a website?'
'Yes - omega-systems.us.'
'Do you have a UK website?'. At this point 'Mark' hung up. I don't suppose there is any point in contacting Telephone Preference Services as it's unlikely to be a legit company but I might run it by them. I suppose we all have to be wary of such calls which surely lead up to extortion.

Re: Omega Systems

Scam. Pure and simple. You aren't the first person, and certainly won't be the last to get these calls.

That's what I thought. I just thought I'd do exactly what the scum-bags wouldn't want me to do which is slag them off.

Re: Omega Systems

Hi,
I've just had a similar call and asked for supervisor who said his name was Shane calling from Omega Systems in Kent giving the same number. Same MO - malicious files, I.P. address, Microsoft error report. Seems to be a new scam as this site is the only reference from a google search. I would like to know what they were after, anyone phoned them back?

Re: Omega Systems

I have received several calls from someone who claims to be "from the computer maintenance department". I can only deduce that they must have realised how phoney this sounds as, if a call is received internally within a company, it might be legit for a call to be received from such a source - but a call received by a personal 'customer' needs a company name. It was only when I questioned the caller that he gave the name Omega Systems. I'm sure that what they're after is money. I can just (pure speculation now) picture them requesting remote assistance to your pc and informing you that they're trying to prevent a download to your pc - while actually downloading something to totally freeze your pc and then offering to undo the problem for a fee. Or, alternately, without remote assistance, selling you 'protection' software that you don't need.
