Many, many years ago Norton used to be one of the best AV's out there, AVG is better by far imo.
I use Avast AV together with Malwarebytes.

re: [Merged] Norton vs avg
AVG is terrible (IMO) and isn`t even in the same league as the recent offerings from Norton.
The trouble is they still both mostly rely on signature based malware detection (with a bit of heuristics) but the amount of malware being churned out coupled with how easy it is to change the MD5/# of a file makes it a doddle for the makers to avoid detection again for a bit.
Iv`e had to help sort out quite a few computers which had AVG on which did nothing against malware (mostly fake AV`s). Not so many with Norton.
So to answer your question.............none Go with Avast, Avira, CIS or MSE for a free offering, Norton or Kaspersky (excellant for cleaning an infected computer) if paid!
And more importantly use common sense version 2, it`s free

re: [Merged] Norton vs avg
I used to use AVG then tried MSE. I found them both to be ineffective in the end. Also with AVG I was inundated with false positives.
I now use Avira and, so far, am happy with it. Shame about the ADs every time it updates but I can live with that.

re: [Merged] Norton vs avg
Problem with AV's today is that virii have morphed into spyware/adware more than their original virii status.. I don't think there is yet a single effective package and a combination is the best option..
Out of the two choices if the Norton was Nav Corp then a big thumbs up, but as a home package both of them are bloatware

Virii is incorrect, Viruses is the correct pluralization.
I know its an on going debate but only a fool would think ii is the correct pluralization of the word that ends in "S" . The latin thing is missunderstood by a lot of nerdy internet geeks.

You really think that in a technical thread anyone really cares
You do though realise that there is not a standard spelling for the word in a computer sense and VIRUSES comes from the biological meaning..
So lets get back on topic and that's virii and their said demise

What the hell are you going on about? "Computer sense"??
When a computer crash's it crash's there is no special "computer sense" for crashing.
A computer chip is a chip, there is no special spelling of chip.
When a computer is "infected" its infected no "computer sense"
In your way of thinking it would have to be Viri and Virii. ITS NOT its virus and viruses.
Just give it up and move on.
