That used to be good but it seems to be a resource hog now, atleast it was last time i tried it on my parents computer, after taking it off and putting Avast on it the computer flies along.

Re: The best free anti virus out there
i don't trust free security software. especially if the company also do a premium version you pay for.
what is the free version lacking? thats why its free. cos its very very basic.
not good enough for me. i don't mind paying £20 or so once a year for a full security suite rather than running 3-5 free softwares all at the same time
its only once a year.
but according to the internet masses, if you pay money for software, you're an idiot.
am happy to be an idiot.

I don't think anyone who pays for software is an idiot, but the free edition of avast has repeatedly beat many of the paid software applications in antivirus tests.
However, if you want to know what the free version of Avast is missing compared to the paid version, http://www.avast.com/en-gb/lp-free-u...=en-gb&p_elm=8

Re: The best free anti virus out there
currently trying Trend Micro Titanium Max. had Kaspersky which was fine until it stopped updating automatically, even after a reformat it refused to update.
had the 90 day trial of Norton 360 V5 and found it very good and easy to use.
to me its not just having an antivirus software, its the whole protection suite I like.
rather than having a few progs all running and using up resources separately.
Norton used to be a massive resource hog but I found that the 306 V5 was using less resources than my logitech keyboard/mouse software!
trying the Trend Micro as i got a copy from the rep when he visited work. would be happy enough to pay for it if it was a reasonable price.
i know Currys sell the 3 license for about £27
