Virgin Media Security

I've got Virgin broadband and use the VMS system which includes anti-virus. I find the program seems to be constantly downloading definitions which slows my computer right down. Are other people finding the same, and is there a better alternative out there? Regards.

Re: Virgin Media Security

I use Comodo on main PC and ZoneAlarm and Microsoft Security Essentials on others. I have used Avast as well. No problems with any of these.

Re: Virgin Media Security

A good thing to do to help form an opinion is go to places where some tests have been done. AV-Comparatives is a popular one:

http://www.av-comparatives.org/

For an overall picture of the tests done there, click on the link that says 'Whole Product Dynamic "Real World" Test' and then the 'Monthly Results' link for a graph.

Virus Bulletin is another:

http://www.virusbtn.com/index

Click on the 'VB100' button at the top of the page and choose 'latest comparative' to see their graph (click to zoom).

Results vary from place to place and from month to month but the sites can help you to decide on what to switch to.

I also use VMS and yes about every 3 hours it D/L's new definition files and yes my pc hangs for 30secs or so while it does this, but on the plus side I ain't had any issues with viruses or malware, I do also back this up with MSE as this has more in depth deep scan to find some nasties that may have got thru as no AV is infallible.
