McAfee Security Scan?

Got this installed on my desktop when I updated my Adobe Flash player the other day. Does anyone know what it does and if it's any good?

TVM as always.

Re: McAfee Security Scan?

Dump it! You can uninstall it from add/remove programs.

I use Avira free.

I'm quite happy with it apart from the occasional nag screens it sends with the updates. I think you can block them by blocking avnotify.exe in your firewall.

I don't use macafee but i've heard it's a hog on the system .The program Osem downloaded would probably give false results and recommend purchasing the full version

McAfee was preinstalled on my laptop. While it seemed to perform well, it wasn't until the trial ran out and I uninstalled it that I realised how much of a resource hog it was.

Yep and it seems a bit naughty of adobe to download it by default with their own downloads and updates

Re: McAfee Security Scan?

You can download McAfees own uninstall prog for getting rid of that bloatware:

Agreed. I updated to flash 10.2 the other day and don't remember seeing the McAfee box to untick it so doubtless it's back again.

I guess Adobe cop a few extra pennies every time someone forgets and downloads it.
