Zone alarm problems.
I have a problem with Zone alarm causing the computer to freeze when it starts to load the task bar. I have uninstalled ZA in safe mode, and done a fresh install but still the same. Any one getting same/similar problems?
At the moment I'm using windows xp built in firewall, so if there is no known solution can anybody recommend an alternative free firewall.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Zone alarm problems.
It would help to know what hardware you are using ..... I've got an ancient P-3 processor with 512Mb RAM and suffered similar problems.
Solution (for me): RAM upgrade to 1Gb \(an extra 512Mb card)\.
Sped up the boot-time from 5+ mins to just under 2!

Re: Zone alarm problems.
ZoneAlarm has become bloatware over the years, I dumped it for Comodo's Firewall & antivirus. http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-...t-security.php

Re: Zone alarm problems.
I use outpost free. It could be a little more user friendly but seems to do a good job.

Windows xp service pack 3
pentium D cpu 2.80GHz
2Gb of RaM
When the fault occurs the computer will not load at all. The cpu just slows to a halt no proccessor use at all and I have to shut the machine down manually.

Delta can you just get the fire wall on its own or do you have to get the anti virus as well?

Re: Zone alarm problems.
By'eck! That's a supercomputer, compared to mine.
Next supposition (guess) is that there is some conflict with other startup software, in which case an alternative firewall is worth a try.
I didn't rate Comodo, much, it's a grade one PITA {pain in the a**e} when you do a Microsoft monthly update (patch Tuesday) ... the "allow update" mode doesn't last half long enough .... now that's what I call bloatware!
I couldn't get Outpost to install on my scrapheap, so can't compare but it may be worth a try. It certainly scores well on the ratings, especially as a free-for-personal product (the best type).

You download both in the package, but you can then install either or both of them as you want (look out for the toolbar it wants to install, untick it if you don't want it). I installed the firewall only as I use AVGfree for anti-virus.
