Im using Avast 5 Home edition and something weird is happening....

Now and then when i click on some program files on a backup drive it says they are infected with this virus and sends to the chest.

Now ive done a FULL virus scan twice and nothing is picked up yet now and then it still detects this in one or two program files. Is this a false positive?

Its really starting to annoy me now.

Is there anything else i can use to scan system just to be 100% sure?

Probably not a false positive and probably time to dust off those OLD backups

I think it is a false positive. Surely if my system was infected that program files on my windows drive would be infected yes? The only files that are infected are on a backup drive and avast says they r infected and sends str8 to the chest.

If these files truly are infected why arnt they detected on scan yet are detected when i click on the file.

This is why im thinking its a false positive.

I only reinstalled my system a few days back cos of a dodgy hardware issue and system seems to be rock solid.

Try running an online scanner for a second opinion - such as
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/

I have scanned my system now using Panda Active scan online, Symantec Online scanner, Malwarebytes and Spybot and all say my system is totally clean!
