mvbsvc.exe removal help

Hello,

I am getting near constant notifications on my AVG:
C:\program files \Gameztar Toolbar\2.1.3.6670\mvbsvc.exe

Nothing I do seems to remove it, I just get the message that the action was interrupted by the user. Internet is going really slow and disconnecting and I'm getting absolutely loads of pop ups even with Adblocker add on.

Running malwarebytes doesn't bring anything up.

Any advise?

K

Re: mvbsvc.exe removal help

From expert reviews, there is a removal tool towards the bottom of the post.

http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/inter...0-malware-list

Sounds like a nasty little critter!

but we can't confirm its effectiveness.
When did you install the gameztar toolbar? If it was fairly recent do you have a System Restore point from before the install?
Is your data backed up and do you have system recovery disks?

I tried this is didn't work either Tried in normal and safe mode. When I try and remove Gameztar through the control panel it fails.

My boyfriend install Gameztar on the 18/12 and only decided to tell me there was a virus he couldn't remove on the day I started this thread. So too long ago for a system restore....

System recovery disks? Don't think so, I'm not the most technically advanced in this area!

Re: mvbsvc.exe removal help

Are you able to burn a CD from a downloaded file?

If so, have a look at this:
http://www.free-av.com/en/tools/12/a...ue_system.html

Basically you make the CD then boot your system from it and let it scan/remove.
This works better than running from within Windows because the malware cannot hide itself.

Re: mvbsvc.exe removal help

Try as DaiNasty said, a bootable CD can be really effective, just make a note if possible about what is being removed.
Alternatively you could try a couple of other on-demand scans, or maybe try asquared cloud scanner http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/ax/?scan=1 (needs Internet Explorer to run as ActiveX is used, also be aware of what is being quarantined/removed), or the full free edition http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/

Maybe also try SuperAntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com/ or Bitdefender Free http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-1...e-Edition.html.

Do you not have the option to use a recovery console or the ability to format the drive and clean install? Sometimes when something is so ingrained in can be nigh on impossible to remove for sure!

Possibly also register somewhere like http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/ where someone can guide you through using other methods such as Combofix, Rootkit removal, etc.

Back up any important stuff you know is ok before removing items
