Security vulnerbility in Linux Core..
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/11...vulnerability/
A developer has discovered a bug in the Kernel of Linux that when exploited locally, can give any user root access.
While this has been patched in the latest release candidate kernel, and it's effects are mitigated by the default configuration of most distros (RedHat is one notable exception), what I find interesting is both Linus Torvaldes attitude expressed online to a previous vulnerability (which seems to be "it's the user's fault so we shouldn't do anything') and also that the Linux community seem to be oddly quiet on it, compared to how they are when someone discovers a flaw in the Windows Kernel (OSX seems to largely get ignored, probably because it's based on a flavour of Unix).
