Regardless of which side you're on (though as a true computing enthusiast, you shouldn't be taking sides), you've heard the arguments back and forth on the which operating system is truly safer – Mac OS X or Windows. [more]
|
All this time everyone has been saying Macs are more secure.....
Ah man!!

As I have been told by the Apple Rep in the reseller shop I visited before buying my MacBook Pro, your only likely to get viruses/Spyware etc if you go looking for it.

LOL, what great advice, just don't go looking for interwby nasties we've always had the tit for tat this and that OS debate, and every time we get both sides speaking on behalf of their favourite's, but, every OS has it's flaws. Period.

Well let me put it this way you wont get infected on any OS if you dont go looking for nasties. Yes every OS has its flaws, 10.6 has already had a security update within the first 2 weeks i think. So yes you are right in one respect but my point is also valid.

That statement is absolute rubbish. Web nasties attach themselves to innocent looking files or even just web pages themselves or be passed on via emails amongst others. Like anyone googles "give me a virus please" Wayne you should know better

ok let me simplify it even more as long as your careful, have the right software in place, perform regular scans etc, then the risk is minimal.

The OS isn't the only factor, AV, ignorance of the internet and how links work, where are they taking you, a moments lapse in concentration, click a link before thinking and BAM, even those that consider themselves web savy have done it, won't mention names It really is that easy done, and for a rep to merely state, don't go looking for it and you'll be ok
Mind you, if I was 21 again I would be re-installing every other day
EDIT: Zing said it in 20 ish words while I was doing my scrolls

The first statement was just plain wrong this above statement means something totally different and is not a simplification of the original statement

Re: Hacker: Windows More Secure Than Mac OS X
And I'm entitled to bang heads together if this continues
Now on a non mod but ex-IT support techy point of view you don't have to go looking for virii/malware to get infected, there's enough pop-ups, rougue websites, spam emails and even direct to IP attacks to trouble the non-adventurous user.
