pcguard version 8 problems

Hi,

Just been forced by VM to download the new version of pcguard (i.e. the one with less features for those of us unwilling to part with an extra £3 per month).

This is now hogging my cpu, specifically a process called scanningprocess.exe when it is running. Ran the diagnostic tools but no conflicts found.

Has anyone else had similar problems with the new version?

Jon

Re: pcguard version 8 problems

scanningprocess.exe is part of the anti-virus Kaspersky now in Pc Guard.
Is it currently scanning your computer?

Re: pcguard version 8 problems

I was having page loading problems - taking ages - and it turned out to be PC Guard causing the issues - also it was stopping Google Earth working properly. Virgin Support advised upgrading from version 6 to version 8. Have done so, and those problems are gone BUT, I cannot use my online gaming servers any longer as the firewall settings will not allow updates on the fly. I also find that there are processes running in background that hog pc resources. The result of all this is that I have uninstalled PCGuard, and am using free anti virus and spyware protection. All of the problems are now gone, and the pc is much quicker and more responsive. In all, it seems that the PC Guard bundle is not a good bet.

Re: pcguard version 8 problems

i have just unistalled and PC guard due to problems with scanningprocess.exe hogging and dominating my whole system. for the couple of hours where i was without PCguard my PC worked brilliantly and was so fast! now i have reinstalled PCguard and was again scanningprocess.exe is back with a vengeance and my computer has ground to a near halt. I wonder if I too should try one of the free antivirus softwares? What did you use? also, would i then have to put the computers own firewall back in place? (sorry - im ok with computers, but not very technical!)

Re: pcguard version 8 problems

AVG free, do a custom install and untick everything.

Works pretty good.

I've got AVG Free running well on an XP box. I have NOD32 limping along on a Vista notebook.
