Issues since upgrading to PC Guard 8. (Don't know if all PC Guard related)

Since upgrading to the new version of PC Guard, I am having a few problems with my laptop, though some of them I am unsure if it's just a coincidence that they have happened since re-installing PCGuard.

Problem 1: I get a 'The following programs are still running, Shut Down Now' message when I shut down my laptop (See attached Picture)

Problem 2: When connecting an external storage device or browsing the internet, my laptop will sometimes suddenly freeze and only turning it off and back on will get it work again.

Problem 3: Certain elements of web pages now appear as red boxes.

Problem 4: Laptop wont shut down, just displays the Vista 'Shutting Down' screen for ages and doesn't turn off until i press and hold the power button

Is anyone else experiencing these problems and is there a way to fix them.

Ben

You will need to call Tech Support who will be able to sort out this issue for you.

Tech Support is open 24/7 on the numbers below.

For help with your TV or Phone and for Broadband Technical Support:

Call Product Support/Faults on 151 option 2 from your Virgin Media Phone. It's absolutely free.

Or call 0845 454 1111 from any other phone line.

OK, I shall give them a ring later but will see if a re-install of the whole PC Guard, Broadband Advisor lot sorts it out first.

They do have the advice and tools if required if it goes pear shaped.

Problem 1 and Problem 4 seem to be sorted up to now and there are no signs of Problem 2 and Problem 3 yet so will just see how it goes for now.

---------- Post added at 18:43 ---------- Previous post was at 17:25 ----------

Seems Problem 2 still exists... Got a message on Facebook chat and suddenly the window goes white and the laptop completely locks up

I don't know, i've always had IE8 since I got the laptop last month and it never crashed when I had McAfee. Problem 1 and 4 seem to have returned, Problem 3 was to do with Ad Blocking being enabled which I have now disabled.

Ive seen the shutdown issue before - and its not a PC Guard related one. Im not sure what causes it but if I remember a reinstall fixed it

Well i'm getting really really annoyed now, I've ended up with AVG until I can figure out how to fix PCGuard or find a good McAfee deal. Really not happy as I never had any problems with McAfee or the old PCGuard. I don't get it though cause it's working fine on the Packard Bell desktop.

Avira AntiVir gives excellent detection for free, if you dont mind an advert on every update.

Regardless I am more or less certain that the shutdown hang is a Vista bug, seems to be fixed in 7 (very quick at shutting down there). As for the the hanging program on shutdown that is a different kettle of fish, and can either be a PCGuard fault, or something else excessive hogging down the system and stopping pcguard from quiting within a sensible time.

<snip i misread the post> But with that said is there lots of autostart junk on the machine?

Out of interest is the splash screen gone? I have moaned enough upstream to get rid of that

Re: Issues since upgrading to PC Guard 8. (Don't know if all PC Guard related)

No the splash screen on PCguard (when I have it installed) still exists. The startup programs that run on my machine are NTI Backup Now 5 tray, Realtek HD Audio Manager, ATI Catalyst Control Manager, Launch Manager (Hotkeys), Synaptics Pointing Device, HP Digital Imaging Monitor (Printer), Sony Ericsson PC Suite (Phone) and PC Guard when I have it installed. Most of the stuff listed came with the computer except the HP and Sony Ericsson ones.

If you are still getting the splash screen then PC Guard is still on your computer and you need to call Tech Support for removal.

Shame it's an all in one printer then as I need it for scanning, it's always the last thing to load.
