Laptop security on wifi

When I go away next month I am taking my new netbook with me and will be connecting to various free wireless hotspots.

Since this laptop is not only for surfing the web, I'd like to make sure it is secure and that no one can try to access it when I am using a hotel or library wifi network.

I already have Zonealarm firewall installed but does anyone have any other tips for securing my netbook so no one can see it or connect to it.

Thankyou for your hlep.

halcyon.

Re: Laptop security on wifi

if you go to a hotel with ethernet then you could always take a mini router with you with nat.
That would protect you from the hotel internal network.

the other idea would be a VPN
