nod32 Vs Kaspersky

First of all this is not a 'which av is the best on the market' type argument.

I've been using NOD32 for 2 years, all good and no problems.

Looking around on google, it appears that Kaspersky sometimes catches some nasties that NOD misses.

I'm tempted to go for the Kaspersky AV product - VERY tempted in fact. I like the fact NOD32 is low on resources (I'm only running Vista with 2GB RAM and a Sempron 3400) and works quietly in the background. Does anyone have any experience of both of these?

I've not used NOD before, but I've been using Kaspersky for a few years now after previously using Avast (& before that, Norton). First had the Kaspersky AV only, & then switched the full security suite. Currently on KIS2009.

Very good, IMO.

I'm using Eset Smart Security and i never notice it running, so it maybe worth downloading the trials of both and see how you get on.

The problem i find with asking people which is the best they will tell you the one that uses the least resources and causes them the least issues. However your getting the information that matters and that which protects you the best.

last time i looked (over a year ago) ESET was the best but i dont think thats the cases now

Got to ask, if you've been using it for 2 years with no problems, why change ? If it ain't broke don't fix it type thing

And NOD32 user for the last umpteen years, no problems

Kaspersky user here got the internet security suite 2009 and never notice it works well in the background doesn't annoy me with pop ups all the time isn't a resource hog though spec of pc might account for that updates sometimes twice an hour couldn't be happier with it. Used Nod32 for a bit but had a couple of things get on that i didn't like and went looking for something else. Plus if your a barclays bank customer Russ you can get kis 2009 for free

Nod32 is less memory intensive but on the security front, both are just as good. I've used both and happy with both of them.

kasperski is a pain in the backside, it blocks links especially ebay links and its then a pain to find out how to unblock them and also the firewall side of things can be a nightmare to get set right on some systems.

I've found Kaspersky to be too resource hungry so I ditched it after a couple of months. I've now been using nod32 for some time and happy with it's transparent effect on my performance.

I do the usual 'housekeeping' at least once a week as well though; running hijack this, spybot S&D, Adaware etc. in safe mode just to make sure as much as possible that nothings got through.

From experience, no single AV/Antispyware util is totally invulnerable, so having a few won't hurt, even if they are'nt all TSR, and keeping them up to date these days is crucial to their effectiveness.

Kaspersky is known to have the highest detection rate of all consumer security software (somewhere in the realms of 97.5% IIRC), NOD32 is somewhere in the high 80s. The main difference is that NOD32 is designed to be extremely light on resource usage, whereas Kaspersky is designed with ultimate security in mind.

It might have a higher detection rate but some of them are false positives. I have always despised kaspersky and stuck with nod (3 years now) and will never change. All the virus writers now write them to bypass nod and kaspersky, because if they can get past those 2 then the rest are simple. So NOD from Eset is my recommendation.

My apologies if i have upset any Kaspersky users but it's just an opinion.

Not upset at all thats what a forum is for differing opinions so no need for apologies

. I will stick with kaspersky for a good while it is setup as well as it can be on my system i have no false positives and no other problems with it. This is like every IT debate out there end of the day it comes down to personal preference and what an individual is happiest using whatever that maybe. I think most of the decent ones come with some form of trial so if in doubt download them all give each one a go and then settle on the one you were happiest using.

I've used Nod32 for years and love how i never notice it's running. Currently using Eset Smart security and very happy with it.
