Do you need anti virus if
Hi , my son has just bought himself a lap top , he only uses it for down loading music .
My question is will he still need an anti virus if he does not set up an e mail account. i have been told viruses only get through by the e mails . Thanks

As some virii hide as music file codecs I'd say YES.
Any PC attached to the internet needs a decent AV program

you dont just get viruses from emails........
any file on the internet could be a virus, even if it looks like the music file he wants.
be on the safe side with PCs, always get anti virus.
try the free ones though, like avast

AVG Free 8.0 is a good antivirus. All computers should run antivirus as you don't only get them from emails. As for downloading music you can get loads of viruses of all sorts of kinds. I download myself via bittorrent and ran into some virus probs. Better to have antivirus.

http://www.free-av.com/ - free.
Avast and Avira will run on the same PC at the same time, I know cos i am doing it.
http://www.comodo.com/ - firewall if you don't have a router, this also runs with the above.
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/ - good for checking for Trojans etc that the anti virus may miss.
If you are unsure if you need an Anti Virus or not, then I suggest you do need one. And I mean that in the nicest sense.
