Slow comp since upgrading to AVG 8.0.100
Hey everyone.
My computer is extremely slow, this has happened since I upgraded my AVG to the 8.9 trial prog it wanted mye to download, I uninstalled that and got the 8.0.100 free version. but it is really really slow.
everything is slow, the internet, opening word, changing folders in Thunderbird, opening any program, or even trying to get into the program list takes forever.
I updated my Adaware and my spybot and done them through safe mode, they only found cookies, but I deleted them.
then I rebooted and I done a anti virus scan, which froze 1.5 hours into it, no crash report or anything, looked like it was scanning, infact it took nearly 10 secs for every file, so I cancelled the program.
I am at a loss as to what to do now.
I am begining to lose faith in AVG and I dont know which Anti Virus to go for, preferably free as I am rooked.
this thing was running just as normal until I upgraded, but not sure if it is really a virus or a dodgey program.
help
p.s. I got hijack this, an old version but I dont know how to read these things

Have you noticed it is scanning in the background as this will cause your system to run slowly.
UPDATE:
I have just learn't that this new version is a resource hog therefore, it might be wise to either install the older version or, follow this tweakguide |

uninstalling AVG it has made the comp more stable, trying avast now

Are you sure it's AVG 8 that's slowing down your machine, because it's not causing anything of the sort for me :/

I isntalled AVG8 Pro last week, it slowed my PC to a crawl. |

it was AVG 8. got avast up and running, and my machine is now back to normal, and the scan for avast took 50 mins, where as AVG 8 slowed to a near stop at 1.5 hrs in I stopped it just under 2 hours.
My machine is working fine now. so as far as I can tell the AVG was a complete system hog for me

Uninstall AVG 8 untill it is fixed or patched.
I have a dual core AMD,4 gig RAM and my CPU was stuck at 100% with AVG 8 installed.
There are many people experiencing this problem.
Please uninstall for now.

I have used AVG 7 XXX for quite a while and everything was OK, I changed to AVG 8 and it will not update and my e-mail slowed to a crawl, I think my laptop speed slowed down quite a lot.
I am now using Avast and everything seems better !

AVG 8 does have a few bugs and has been known to slow computers down terrible.However when installing AVG 8 there is occasionaly a blue link attached for a patch download you may notce this during the install.
I had to install the patch for my Vista Ultimate 64 bit.
So either install the patch or uninstall AVG 8 for now.
