Nod 32 (i Use Nod32) or Kaspersky are the 2 best on the market. Root.. having linux is nothing now unless you are uptodate. You seen milw0rm lately ? lol
rfi inclusions, php, sql exploits aimed at linux are now becoming more prevelant than any attacks on windows boxes.. lol

And for anyone who wants Kaspersky at a reasonable price, Aria have it for £5.95 plus vat as a standalone, or £9.35 as a suite.I know there are some on here who dislike Aria , with reason. However, their pricing is still amongst the best . Both the above are OEM. What difference that makes, I'm unsure.
P.S. I'm still using AVG!

I wouldn't go near *any* suite with a barge pole.
A suite is normaly antivirus, antispyware and firewall.
Just because a company does one a good job at removing virus removal, does not mean they will do a good job at removing spyware or implementing a firewall.
Stick to seperate applications, you will have much greater control and security that way.

well i dont actually run any firewall/antivirus or spyware stuff as i know my machine is clean and the sites i visit are clean, nod as suite is better than the individual apps causing clashes between one another and having to configure each one
memory use on the nod suite is low (we use it at work) compared to many other programs

You do not need to visit any site to become infected, you just need to be connected to the internet. There are many worms/bots looking for unprotected machines and since you have no protection you`d be very lucky not to be infected at this time, also how would you know you are not infected if you have no protection on board, it is a myth to say that as long as you do not visit dogey sites you`ll be ok, this is not true in the digital age.

I agree with you 100%, you can get infected within minutes after being connected to the internet without doing anything at all if you have no protection.

Yep.. You can be infected by drone scanners that sit on irc networks and are just infected specifically to scan ip ranges for machines with Weak passwords, Wesk sql passwords, Radmin passes not set, Remote Administrator passes not set to name but a few. If u think that your machine is 100% safe without a firewall and an a/v then all the best mate. Microsoft might have patched Xp etc to the hilt but you are forgetting about all your other programs that need net access to check for updates etc and possibly have exploits to allow someone else into your machine.
U think i am kidding ? Have a look at milw0rm etc

Re: Which anti virus and spyware software to choose??
Got to agree with the majority here, I have three pc's running nod 32 at home and i have found the free spyware doctor from google is a very good spyware remover.
Nod 32 has one of the smallest footprints of the Anti virus range using only a very small amount of your computer resources but at the same time it is a very powerful anti virus which runs quietly in the background updates on a regular basis sometimes three or more times a day, I have installed Nod on many clients computers over the last two years and am very happy with the results.
