Pc Guard

I have just had Virgin Broadband Installed
I currently have Norton my Pcs
what is your opinion on the PC Guard that Virgin offer ?
is it any good ?

it's not the greatest program in the world, but it will do a job for you.

there is a quite a few people who really dislike it tho so i guess its down to personal opinion.

(if you are changing to it best waiting until the middle of next week as theyre udating one of our systems at the moment and its affected the activation of the pcgaurd so you won't b able to get it on. expected resolve is monday, but you tend to be best to give a few days after that)

Norton and pcguard are both rubbish.

Get avast antivirus or avg, which is free and does the job alot better than norton and pgaurd.

you will of course, if taking that recommendation, need to get yourself a seperate firewall.

if your doin that zonealarm (which is free) has always been pretty reliable for me

the pcguard is also free for firewall and antivirus on any package, and free spyware as well on the large package and up

Have a new PC ( with Vista pre loaded) All sorts of problems with AVG, have been told it just dont work with Vista. Put on McAfee - not sure if that was a wish move yet!

A few months ago, I got a new PC with Vista. Loaded AVG anti-virus and Spyware Doctor. Seemed OK but never thought the computer worked as fast as it should.

Recently, a message came up saying Spyware Doctor had closed down because of a "conflict". Decided to give VM PC guard a go (have used Ntl version in the past without a problem).

Uninstalled AVG and Spyware Doctor and loaded PC Guard. Now the computer flies as it never has before!

Another advantage is that, unlike the old ntl version, the firewall allows you to share files on computers in your home network straight way without having to mess about with settings. (Turn off Windows Firewall if you use PC Guard firewall, of course)

Previous experience with McAffee and Norton is avoid at all costs. They slow things down and cause problems with some things working.

Thus I recommend PC Guard anti-virus, spyware and firewall . . . and it's free. I wonder if some of the people weho claim it is "rubbish" have actually tried it recently.

havent noticed ANY problem with McAfee but it is the very latest version. AVG kept failing to upgrade simply said it could n`t see various things. Messages left right & centre to do this that or the other,life is to short to worry about them.

I used it on one of my Laptops and found that when I was using Speedtest.net to check my BB speed, the ping rate was way up, like 600ms, after some investigation I found if I disabled the Identity Theft Protection the Ping rate would go back down to 50 ms.

With PC Guard Identity Theft Protection ON, the Ping was 634. With it OFF it is 16!! (No effect on downlaod or upoload, though)

Wgatever it does, I will manage without it in future.

The PC Guard from Virgin is load of junk, it dont even work propaly on XP

I'm glad the info was useful to you, it's not a bad program as far a free Anti Virus program goes but I shall be changing it soon to my favorite Kaspersky Internet Security Program..

Had it running after AVG failed & before Mcaffe was put on worked find & as the PC is clean I guess it did its job
