Pigeon AXML

I am getting an error message 'Spyware failed to delete Pigeon AXLM' continuously. Anyone know what this is?

I've run a system scan and NTL Netguard found 2 instances on the registry.

For info so far I've tried to run Netguard in safemode but it wouldn't start. I've downloaded AVG spyware and run that in safemode but it couldn't detect the problem....nor did spywarebot.

I've thought I'd got it with a system restore but it was back within 10 minutes.

Can anyone help???

Re: Pigeon AXML

What antivirus program are you running. Is it absolutely current in terms of both the antivirus signature, but also the software itself.

I'd suggest you try an online based scan and see if that shows anything: pandasecurity trendhousecall and norton are all good examples.

Re: Pigeon AXML

suggests that Netguard may be out of date, or reporting a false positive, which is why I recommend the other scans as a cross check.

Antivirus ans security programs are only as good as the definition files they receive, and perhaps, if you turn it on their heuristic prediction technologies. They aren't infallable. Whilst you should normally only run one security program as two could cause conflicts, a different scanner can often confirm if odd behaviour of the PC is something to be concerned about.

To Chris Davo. Can you tell me what is meant by a; "false positive" and can it harm my PC? Sorry for appearing stupid but I genuinely don't understand technical terms.

I too am getting this pop-up "Anti spyware failed to delete pigeon axlm. I am also using ntl netguard.

I would appreciate your reply.lauramac

A false positive, is something saying something is a threat, when really it was a false alarm

Smile Re: Pigeon AXML

Many thanks Druchill, I was worried sick that it would eventually spread through the PC and wipe out my files, or worse someone could obtain my passwords and other details which would allow them to use my accounts.

Your reply has eased my mind 100% and I will not worry as much about it. Although the pop-up is irritating especially when you're in the middle of doing something online. Thanks again, lauramac,

Re: Pigeon AXML

My PC Guard keeps finding Pigeon AXLM and can't delete it. I've tried to quarantine it and then delete which seems to work, but then it comes back next time I start up. I thought I would try doing the same in safe mode with Restore switched off, but PC Guard won't run in Safe Mode. (and just doing a restore doesn't get rid of it)

The location is reported as -

hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\enum\r oot\legacy_evteng

However, when I go to this location with regedit, there is no sign of it, so perhaps the False +ve theory is true. In the meantime, it is a real pest.

I dare not mess with the registry, because I don't know what I'm doing!

Re: Pigeon AXML

Rob - I have carried out one of the online scans as you suggested (Pandasecurity) and it says that it has found 11 infected files (all cookies)but no mention of Pigeon AXLM though. It then recommends that I subscribe to them for extra protection.

What would you recommend? The error meesage is still popping up quite a lot. I'm worried about doing things like online banking while I have the virus.

Re: Pigeon AXML

I don't use netguard so I don't know what options that software allows. Is there any way of submitting the file, or files being identified to netguard so they can examine them and issue an update for their software to either eradicate the dodgy files, or remove the warnings if in fact it's safe.

If other online scans are not detecting the file, then I'd not be unduly concerned that there is a problem, and would suspect the false positive type error.

Dodgy cookies are usually a separate matter, picked up from your browsing. They are usually spyware type stuff and worth deleting.

Re: Pigeon AXML

Although PC Guard was telling me that no new updates were available, I loaded a fresh copy from their website and this appears to have cured the problem.

Re: Pigeon AXML

I did the same thing with PC Guard, the annoying box doesnt come up anymore!
Although this is great news, the arrival of the Pigeon AXLM warning box co-incided with the death of my laptop's ability to connect to, or even find, any wireless networks! This problem has also happened on another laptop in our house. Coincidence?

Re: Pigeon AXML

I've just replaced my ntl netguard with pcguard. It actually says I need to upgrade to get the anti-spyware back as I've now only got the anti-virus and firewall. Anyway I've downloaded AVG's free spyware and run a problem free scan. I'm hoping I'm in the clear now and that the nasty Pigeon was a false positive.

Any opinions on the free AVG antispyware? Should I subscribe after the 30 day trial?

Thanks for the advice.

As for the wireless, mine is unaffected so I'd say that this is coincidence.
