best antivir software...depands on who you ask mate...
some people swear on Avast, some on Nod32, some sinical people Norton.
ditto with spyware.

personally I do it manually, and scan all the binary data that comes into my pc by hand.

i would say avg free for anti virus
spybot and adaware for spyware
use firefox rather than IE

Nods32 for Antivirus available here: www.eset.com.
Adaware, Adblock+, and HijackThis for everything else.
