Spyware - removing Cutwail anyone?
A couple of weeks ago I got a PC Guard message saying "Anti-Spyware failed to delete Cutwail". Refer to Spyware Centre. In turn the Spyware Centre says "no inormation on Cutwail".
Tried all I know to remove it but no luck.
Anyone successully removed it or even know if it's a problem??
Thanks
chrisB

You could try running another spyware cleaner such as Lavasoft Adaware and see if that sorts it out. It's free.

Re: Spyware - removing Cutwail anyone?
Thanks for replies guys.
Have tried 'Spyware Begone' that's usually good but no result.
Will investigate 'Google' options
Thanks

There is a good 1 about called Spybot S&D, this will update its definitions (you will have to check for the updates though) but apart from that, its basically easy, just might take a while to scan fully!

Cutwail & Virgin - Just a thought
Seeing that Cutwail seems to be readily recognised on the web and there are lots of software programs claimimg to disinfect it; Why does my Virgin PC Guard not also pick it up and get shut of the irritatating little sod?
Those of us on Virgin are paying monthly for an up-to-date anti-virus system. Are Virgin really so out of date & touch.

Re: Spyware - removing Cutwail anyone?
Some spyware is very difficult to remove. I have had to resort to manual methods on more than one occasion. Yes, these "tools" detect, but can't always cure because the damned spyware has a knack of reinstalling itself.
I have found that the Sophos site is a good source of information on some of these nasties.
Edit
Sophos don't appear to know about that one (by that name anyway)

Re: Spyware - removing Cutwail anyone?
Bonzoe, thanks for comments; I know it's not as easy as I suggest, it's just that I get really p*s*e* off that something I can't get at screws up my computer / life!!!
Anyway, I've completely flattened my machine and reset up using Zone Alarm (firewall), AVG (anti-virus) and Spybot (spyware); hope that does the trick. We use sophos at work and it's pretty good but I could not find a free copy.
regards
chrisB

Re: Spyware - removing Cutwail anyone?
Sophos have an emergency command line tool which you can download and run with IDE files which you can also download. You need to check on a link on the site for details on how to remove a trojan........
