Thumbs down Microsoft Antispyware / Norton IS --- PAHH !!!

I have just repaired a customers computer that had the latest norton internet security bundle including the latest virus updates and microsoft antispyware....

These cost a lot of money (apart from the MS antispyware)

.
.
.
.
.
Scanned with ad-aware - 4856 objects found / after reboot in safe mode another 2546 found

Scanned with AVG - 342 virus's and trojans found + 78 in the system restore folder.....

Anyone who wants to waste there time telling me that Norton is not a total pile of steaming crap is welcome to try... A software package that hoggs 40+ mbs of ram and does nothing for you... How fantastic

As for MS antispyware - Its not worth the binary it lives in !!!!

This computer was absulutely riddled with rubbish.. Its just a shame that the customer trusted the security of the computer to such a useless pile of junk as Norton...

And people actualy pay money for Norton

Re: Microsoft Antispyware / Norton IS --- PAHH !!!

Had this a while back.

By the time I had cleared out the PC the OS was so corrupted that a fresh install was the only option.

Might be quicker/easier/safer in the long run.....

Although Stuart's probably glad he doesn't if your computer's anywhere near as bad as the one he's working on at the moment

You're probably fairly safe then, provided that you keep them updated and run them regularly

Re: Microsoft Antispyware / Norton IS --- PAHH !!!

Daily they are run apart from a virus scan, although i regulary clean out my firewall application permissions and redo them as they appear, gets rid of the odd things you permit such as .tmp files for installing programs.

Managed to complete the repair without a re-install. Of course notron would not unistall so had to manualy remove it and all the associated registry keys Scanned the computer with avg overnight and found another 58 virus's and worms + adaware found another 13 ojects this morning....

User consol to copy over damaged files and instaled spywareblaster, spyware guard and KPF afterwards. The computer took from 9:00 am this morning to about 10 minutes ago to defrag

Re: Microsoft Antispyware / Norton IS --- PAHH !!!

I've used MS Antispyware since it's release, I don't use anything else alongside it, I installed Spybot 1.4 yesterday and it found a grand total of ... absolutely nothing.
