Norton Antivirus resubscribing

ok, so i'm about due to resubscribe for norton, just wondering, is it possible to buy norton 2k5 and install that, and will that count as resubscribing? i mean, i know it may not sound logical, but just as an option

Re: Norton Antivirus resubscribing

Well you get a year's free subscription when you buy the new version.

If you must get Norton and you've got an earlier version try the upgrade

Though I would recommend avast...it's free and miles better

Re: Norton Antivirus resubscribing

I use Kerio, but there's also Sygate and Zonealarm

I forgot to mention, some of the free ones do not have the same features as their paid for versions.

They generally give you a comparison table between the free and paid for version.

Re: Norton Antivirus resubscribing

When I used to have Norton, I always found removing Norton completely and re installing it gave me another year's free susbscription. This was with the 2001 version though - I am not sure if they've closed the loophole in subsequent versions as I no longer use Norton due to the amount of problems I have had with it (the same problem kept on coming back again and again, and it was a pain in the backside to fix each time so I just cut my losses).

Personally I wouldn't touch Norton's 2005 range of products due to the severe bloat that comes with it.

Still works with the 2002, 2003 and 2004 versions

Is Kerio free? Is it better than sygate?

There's a free and a paid for version. You get the full version for 30 days, then it changes to the free version. The free has less features.

I paid for a license though as I wanted some of the paid for features. I like it, nice and simple to use and it "seems" to do its job. It seemed at lot better than sygate, but I only tried Sygate for 5mins, so I can't really say (I didn't like the layout)

Re: Norton Antivirus resubscribing

How customisable is it? I like to have outbound protection, and like the "changed" alerts in sygate and the fact if another application fires up a web browser or something which wants to go on-line then it asks. I also like to have the ability to (easily) set up zones for altered access (like for LANs) or block access to certain IPs etc etc... I couldn't work out how to do that satisfactorily in zonealarm and sygate handles it quite well...

I can't say about the free version, but the paid for does all that.

If you're having no problems with sygate, why change?

Cos I might like it better... dunno... well, I've had a look around the kerio site.

The main differences between the paid-for and the free version are the pop-up blocking, web browser stuff, which really FX with Ad-block does for free.

I may give it a try. Sygate can sometimes hog my CPU a tad more than I like.

Erm you may find that doing that will get you nowhere as you will probably have to hunt down and remove all traces of the software from your registry too.
