MS AntiVirus coming soon?

Speculation among security industry sources suggests that Microsoft may be preparing to introduce its standalone antivirus software next week.

Will be interesting to see what they come up with and what price they sell it for.

It will indeed be interesting, allthough with the amount of bugs / loopholes found in XP for example it will also be interesting to see how many people trust it?

And finally, the M$ business model is complete. First, dominate the world with an operating system that's vulnerable to nasty viruses, trojans and exploits. Then sell everyone the solution.

That's a bit unfair. I understand serious holes have been found in Firefox recently.

Competing anti-virus programs are overpriced and usually not very good. Go back 15 years - all the add-on software (disk compression, memory management, backup, defrag tools etc) was produced by lots of different companies and most of it was difficult to use and didn't work well.

Let M$ replace the lot with one decent stable system (like they have with XP) and we'll all save, that's what I say.

Yep. And they were fixed within a week.

Never in the history of commerce has a monopoly ever been to the long-term benefit of the customer. Microshaft is already a virtual monopoly, I have no interest in seeing its influence spread.

If it's paid for i'll stick with Avast. If not, it's always worth a go.
