Mozilla Patches Firefox Hole

Foundation denies that the browser is attracting more hackers as it gains market share.
The Mozilla Foundation issued a patch this week for a previously undisclosed hole in its popular Firefox Web browser and is encouraging Firefox users to download the software update as soon as possible.

I never got wind of this, anyone else ????

Maybe Mozilla should consider some sort of autoupdate system.

Firefox doesn't automatically update itself, but it does automatically check for updates, & then ask if you want them or not.

Re: Mozilla Patches Firefox Hole

lol, before firefox took off one of the main reasons to move over to it was down to the greater amount of security it allows you, and functionality.

Out of the numerous arguments put forwards as to why IE seemingly had numerous vulnerbilities was because it was by far the leader in its market. Now firefox is gaining a bit - they're being hit a bit more

Re: Mozilla Patches Firefox Hole

Perhaps.

Although holes in Firefox seem to get patched up quicker than holes in IE.

That link also includes a link to the "Browser Checker", it would be a good idea for everyone to run it.
FF (1.0.1) passes with 0 vulns, I haven't got around to updating yet because I don't want to lose any extensions.

Re: Mozilla Patches Firefox Hole

definitely. It's got something like a 20% market share now, which is astonishing considering the grip IE had, so it'll be a bigger target, that's undeniable.

What's better security-wise is that there's a far bigger development base than for IE, and that they don't sit about for ages once they know about a hole, they do something fairly quickly.

There's a little icon appear at the top right of the browser, a red circle with an arrow pointing up, that tells you there's updates needing downloaded.

Re: Mozilla Patches Firefox Hole

Since when does 6% = 20% ? I doubt firefox will ever reach that position. Too many people just don't care about security, especially in the UK apparently, since we have the biggest percentage of hacked PC's in the world.

Yep

However.... for some major updates (e.g. FF1.0.1 to 1.0.2), it is better to get it manually from the mozilla website (& uninstall the old version before installing the new one).
