email virus's
i need help! i did the wrong thing the other day, and joined up to the ntl news groups, and posted without changing my email address!! now eveyday i get about 6 emails from differnet companies including fake microsoft security patches and ones from robot mail. all these have attachments with the swern virus in them. all the adresses are slightly different, so even when i block the sender, plenty more seem to come through! i have also tried blocking different subject line, but lots are still getting through. is there anything i can do to stop this? i dont mind the spam so much but the virus are another thing. it takes my antivirus ages to sort through them all and quarintine them all I JUST WANT THEM TO STOP!!!!! PLEASES HELP!!
thanks from jane

not really, unless you remove the email address off the NTL server and use a diffarent name.....
the mailwasher program lets you delete emails before they are downloaded.....

I agree with Kronas that using Mailwasher or changing your email addy are the best ways to deal with this.
Alternatively you could log into your account via webmail & delete messages off the server before you download them? Mailwasher does this more elegantly, though.
<edit> Thanks altis

Re: email virus's
Alternatively, check the message for the originating IP address. Chances are, they're all from the same computer. Details of how to do this here:
http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/sh...ad.php?t=10441
Then find out where to report abuse using this:
http://www.dnsstuff.com/
(although it's not working for me at the moment)
If it turns out to be an NTL customer you can use the online form here:
http://www.ntlworld.com/netreport/
Then simply report that you are getting viruses and the ISP should quarantine them until they've cleared up their computer.

Re: email virus's
Until a few months ago I was spam-free, then I suddenly started receiving increasing amounts. When it started containing the netsky virus, I decided that something needed to be done. So, first of all I changed my ntl user name, then I created a number of new email addresses (you're allowed up to 15); I've got one for friends and family, one for trusted firms, one for "one off" firms etc and a special one that I shall use for news groups etc. If the latter gets contaminated, I'll simply delete it.
