Firewall and other bits

Wonder if any one can help me. I have recently installed the latest version of Norton Firewall. Since doing it I keep receiving more alerts that i'm being scaned then ever before.

What concerns me, is that sometimes after i block a scan my connection goes down. The question is, does ntl scan my computer to see if its active and if so can it disrupt my connection??

Re: Firewall and other bits

can you post details of the actual message that you are getting? it may not be a scan, but someone such as the ip lease being checked/ renewed. how often does it occur?

Re: Firewall and other bits

Sounds to me like this is what MB suggests - the DHCP renew/release - if you block this you will lose your ip address and hence connection.

Re: Firewall and other bits

NTL have also been known to scan your computer for certain ports used for worms being left open IIRC.

Re: Firewall and other bits

Well since i posted this morning, i did a complete uninstall of Norton firewall and reinstalled it.
At the moment everything seems ok again.
So thanks for all your help.
If the problem returns i will post again.

Have a look at Robin Walker's firewall tips
