Re: Avg
Nope, there is a way around it by changing the information in your URL file to point to a different server
Will go grab the info you need if you like

Re: Avg
From Google group search
I added the extra refs to the url.ini file in the Grisoft folder
(right click, open the url.ini file and paste the following into it over the original info.)
Back up the file by renaming it url.old if you want to make sure you can undo it.
Quote:
[SERVER_NAME]
1=free.grisoft.cz
2=ftp.grisoft.com
3=www.grisoft.com 1
4=www.grisoft.com 2
[SERVER_URL]
1=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe
2=ftp.grisoft.com/pub/softw/60/fe/
3=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe/
4=http://www.grisoft.com/akm/softw/60/fe/
Actual URL=4
|
This will give you a choice of servers to use to update from.

The following is from an ongoing similar discussion on the WinDrivers Forum and is culled from a couple of posts.
Hope it helps!
******************
Navigate to your AVG install directory and rename your existing url.ini file to url.iniold.
Copy the following and paste into notepad and save it as url.ini. Put this new file into your AVG install directory. You'll now have 3 options to select from with www.grisoft.com being the default.
[SERVER_NAME]
1=free.grisoft.cz
2=ftp.grisoft.com
3=www.grisoft.com
[SERVER_URL]
1=http://free.grisoft.cz/softw/60/fe
2=ftp.grisoft.com/pub/softw/60/fe/
3=http://www.grisoft.com/softw/60/fe/
Actual URL=3

Re: Avg
Hope it helps, it's always useful to have more than one point of access for the update files. Had a problem updating last night and kept getting a damaged file, had to download it manually from AVg in the end and drop it into the update folder myself

That will be up to the mods and admins if they think it is useful enough to keep visible, might need to copy it out of the thread and change the title though. As long as it helps people then thats the main thing

glad to echo that last sentiment, Paul
- and I acknowledge your implied question about how we move the 'knowledgebase' aspect of the site forward
- what about an 'I just received an update for xyz Anti Virus ' sticky?

With the frequency of updates it may be difficult and we would need to know what software the majority of people are using but it is possible to do if the mods/ admins want to create the relevant threads.
Might need to ask the question what software updates do you want to be warned about?
Anti-virus, firewall, pop-up stopper, ad-aware, spyware etc??
