Thats been the average time for years. I last worked in a cinema in 2001 and there were always 12-14 mins of adverts followed by about 16mins of trailers.

Sometimes the morning and early morning showings will maybe have 15-20mins instead.

The advertised time is usually the programme start time and not the actual movie start time.
