FGS, what is this obsession with getting offended that we (as a society) seem to have?

Jeremy Clarkson is someone who is occasionally outspoken. Some people like him for it (like me), and some don't. Those who don't are not forced to watch, read or listen to him.

In the mean time, there seems to be a trend for people to get offended on behalf of others. Something which the newspapers try and build into a frenzy. This is achieving something far more insidious and dangerous than merely offending people. It's causing the media to censor increasing amounts of potentially offensive content. That, to my mind, does far more damage to society than a joke about the burqa.
