I think alot of the problem comes down to the govenment and there stupid Tax credits and minimum wage system,
if employers where made to pay a proper wage in the first place (in line with inflation) over the last 20 years there would be alot less people now requiring this so called tax credits, most employers now for standard jobs will only pay around the national minimum wage as they know the govenment will top it up with tax credits for alot of people, of course this fails when you have single people or people without children in those jobs they lose out, so the govenment has made the company's richer and again the people poorer.
