Line is capable of much higher speeds but it's running slowly due to the connection being unstable.

I never turn the router off, its on continuously. I suspect its my wiring as this was installed when the building was redeveloped and BT had no part in it other than connecting it.
I pay sky for my line rental and broadband, would i have to get someone independent to check over my internal wiring?
