Another suggestion:

Design the site to work on smaller resolutions like 1024x768. My netbook has the horizontal scrollbar for another 400-500 pixels. No website should ever have a horizontal scrollbar.

My advice to you, honestly, is to get a professional to do the site for you. BUT, set yourself a maximum budget. A decent site should not cost more than £500 and should include decent support for at least 90 days after its finished to iron out problems. I would offer to do it for you a lot cheaper, but I simply have no time for it now I work 9-5.

If you do go this route, go with a respectable company and not a one-man freelance jobbie.
