He has been arrested. What "duty" does the government have to keep you informed and risk a fair trial? For that matter how does knowing what he did make you safer?

If they revealed the crime, it would be easy to know who he is, if we know who he is, then a fair trail is going to be very hard. It's not a cop-out, it's actually pretty easy to understand.
