Well spotted
Ok heres how it works, Orange and T-Mobile are merging there actual businesses in the UK, they will merge there 2G network infrastructure eventually.

T-Mobile and 3 have created a joint venture called MBNL which is now in charge of the 3G masts operated by T-Mobile and 3, therefore T-Mobile and 3 are merging there 3G infrastructure and will both offer same level of service. Those on Virgin Mobile will also experience the same level since it is powered by T-Mobile.

Orange 3G sites will be merged into MBNL once T-Mobile and Orange are merged completely and will be done in the next few years, to avoid high running costs, uneccessary Orange 3G masts would be decommisioned where not needed.

By then, 3,Orange,T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile customers will all have the same level of 3G service and as 3 uses the Orange 2G network for 2G services, 3,Orange,T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile customers will have the same level of 2G network coverage.

Its wouldn't be possible for any of the above mentioned operators to offer less 3G coverage than another in one particular area since the network coverage would be offered by the same masts. All that should be completed by 2015, 3,Orange,T-Mobile and Virgin Mobile should then look at phasing out 2G handsets and services as 3G would be almost reaching 100% of the UK.

O2 and Vodafone have a long way to catch up, I would be suprised if they cover 95% of the UK with 3G coverage by 2020. Don't understand why they are so slow at it, they have plenty of money and Vodafone has been round the longest, you'd think they would be the market leaders!
