When Samara bursts into Morinth's apartment & they fight, you should have the option to choose "Kill Morinth" (Paragon) or "Kill Samara" (Renegade).

Perhaps it depends on how you faired while talking to Morinth before Samara arrived? I didn't let her hypnotise me, & just used the relevant left-hand dialogue options during the conversation.
