Not universally true.

Compare bad company 2 side by side, ps3 version to pc, the difference is light and day.

There's SOME bad ports out there (gta IV I'm looking at you) that suffer from crappy framerates and shoddy console graphics hacks (seriously, blur IS NOT anti-aliasing!), but there's still a lot of good games that do take advantage of the full power.

A good pc port of a title will still have better graphics than the console it was wrote for as long as they spent more than a day working on it. The main issue with ports isn't the graphics which are easy to get right (just higher res versions of textures and higher poly models) but with crappy console friendly controls and ui. There's plenty a game that's looked pretty on a PC that has instantly put me off because of the console ported controls that just don't fit well with a pc.

Nearly every time people show an amazing looking console shot it just seems to be a world of blur trying to cover up the jaggies and lack of definition at distances.

Dirt 2 is just /drool on my 5850, aint no way a 5770 would be able to run it at max settings with playable framerates.

BC2 as well, a 5770 isn't running that at max settings. I'd be more than willing to put money on crysis 2 being the same.
