How is it possible other than using Task Manager to get a program to end forcefully?

Im having a problem with Firefox at the moment now and then when i try and open it, it says the program is already running and i cant get it to end by killing the process in task manager and the only way i can then get it to work is by restarting the PC.

Are there any other programs i can try?
