It's to keep up with BT's 10Mbps upstream on their FTTC/P products, it's nothing at all to do with the next generation TV platform. Present TV only set tops get 1Mbps down and 128kbps up from memory for interactive services, the set tops will be serviced via DOCSIS service flows and dynamic bandwidth caps depending on requirements, upstream will remain a non-issue for the STBs and 128kbps ample for their needs as most of the traffic from these next gen gateways will be on LAN not WAN.
