in regedit browse here and make sure autoruns value is 1

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\CDRom

or

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet001\Ser vices\CDRom

if no help click start and run and type service.msc and click ok

check shell hardware detection make sure its running and set to auto start up

tweakui part of xp powertoys has settings that could fix this also http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx
