Computer freezing

While trying to add a few video clips to another clip in windows movie maker it gets to about 32% and my pc just freezes.

I have to manually turn it off. But after this happens and I turn it back on the monitor does not come on straight away and it does not beep as it should. After 5 or so minutes it boots up as normal.

Highly annoying.

Any suggestions?

PC stats are

2048 Mb DDR 3200 ram
RADEON X800 Series 256mb
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (This was happening before I installed SP3)
