So was this your corp laptop? If Outlook has some existing settings, they would only be there for an existing domain user.
If so, in Control Panel there should be a 'mail' icon, which will allow you to delete the Exchange 'profile' and start from scratch. However, proper Outlook works best with Exchange - if you are going to be using an ISP mail account, eg ntlworld.com, you might be better of with Outlook Express or Thunderbird.
