Intel's core architecture is slightly better than AMD's, and as the Intel cores can also overclock a hell of a lot more (they are also in a lot of cases faster at slower clock speeds) they have so much more headroom. A Q6600 can easily be clocked to beat a Q3000 or a Q9450. This generation of processors is also dependant on raw clock speed aswell as good architecture and Intel wins on both fronts.
DDR2&3 1066 : DDR3 1066 is slower than DDR2 1066, latency is everything with RAM, and that effects data rate more than just ramping up the clocks. If you get some enthusiast RAM, you can also drop the DDR2's latencies down to 4-4-4-8 and up the clock speed to around 1110 Mhz no problem. DDR3 only shines at higher clock speeds, and the latencies are currently very high.
