Avg's free version of antispyware works quite well, though you have to regularly manually update it and run it after the month's trial runs out.
Spyware Doctor, whilst not free, is the best in my oppinion. If you have more than one Pc it is relativey inexpensive, as at present the price covers installation on 3 machines for the £30 (or near) asking price.

If you run XP then Spyware Doctor is free as part of the Google pack.If you still run w2k like me you have to pay for it. Don't know about Vista at all.
