Having Norton on laptop and used Sophos it is hardly resource intensive. Try using these bloatwares and you will know what resource intensive is.
Steam uses more resources than PCGuard.
You probably need to reboot your PC as it requires the services to stop and restart Norton etc all do this as well. Usually when parts of the engine are updated.

A lot of people in this forum are computer technicians, engineers, security experts etc, and know what they are talking about, and know that the only good thing about PCGuard is the way it glitters in the sunlight when used as a frisbee.

Windows' one didn't seem to need any input from me, which is good given that I know very little about that.

Comodo is the firewall you want, and yes it does require knowledge, but then so do all firewalls. Without any knowledge of firewalls, you shouldn't use one, or you will likely end up in a situation where you block something vital, and can no longer connect to the internet. That being said though, I would say that a good personal firewall is more essential than anti-spyware or anti-virus software. It is something you *really* do need to learn about.
