Ah, I missed that, thanks! (The BBC article doesn't have the date of the conference noted.) Makes more sense now.

If Mecca is now in perfect alignment with the magnetic north, what's going to happen if/when the magnetic north pole shifts again? Will they adjust Mecca time accordingly? Could they even do that, given that this would mean that Mecca would presumably no longer be aligned to the magnetic north?

The Mecca watch sounds pretty cool, actually.
