have you tried just turning down your security settings or just download firefox and give that a bash

try turning a few things up to speed up firefox. network.http.pipelining set to true.
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests set this to 10 don't go any higher than that as some isp get a bit touchy.
network.http.proxy.pipelining set this to true.
all this is done in firefox . just clear the address bar and type in about:config

then type pipe in the filter bar.
