If he was dithering he wouldn't be the only one. I think the China protests have really suprised a lot of people, myself included. China have historically always been given an easy ride over their human rights record. I mean if people were that affronted by it, why not say something before? China were awarded the games years ago, and their position on human rights violations hasn't changed.
I think everyone was expecting the China would get better by now, and at this stage, especially with the Tibet issue, people have had enough. The Olympics are also being used by China as a self-promotional tool to help them on the world stage and everyone is saying that, no, you are not a respected figure on the world stage while your oppressing your own people.
