I did used to think it was men's fault in that the only voiced opinion of men was that women should have an hourglass figure with blonde hair and big boobs. However in the last few years (10-15 especially) is that contra-opinions have become more prominent. You have the the phrase which was made famous by American pie (google Stiffler's mom), and the chubby chasers, and now even red hair has become sexy (whereas ginger males are still regarded as freaks). Men have gone as far as they can in saying many women contra to old-opinion are beautiful.

However, even with that, women still try and tell themselves differently. Its not an image issue, its a mental one. The current women's issue is the size 0. I can't find anyone who finds it in the least bit attractive, and even women's magazines point to size 0 women and say how hideous they can be with bony feet or shoulders, but it doesn't matter. Large section of female society are obsessed with it. Like with anorexics who make themselves more hideous thinking they are on the path to beauty, its entirely an mental issue.
